ASPIRING AUTHOR Q&A
Aspiring Author Questions & Answers
Everything prospective authors ask us, answered plainly. If yours isn't here, ask us directly.
Getting started
Who is the Aspiring Authors program for?
Writers who want their own book in the world and would rather not learn the technical side of publishing. Authors join at every stage — a first idea, a half-written draft, or a finished manuscript.
How does Start Your Journey work?
It's a short registration: your name, how readers should see it, your email, a username and a password. That's it — your dashboard opens straight away.
What happens after I register?
You land in your own Author Dashboard with a checklist of your real next steps. The first one is the Author Assessment.
Can I start with only a book idea?
Yes. "Just an idea" is a real answer on the assessment, and the Book Studio is where an idea becomes chapters.
What if I already have a finished manuscript?
Tell us that on the assessment and upload it in your dashboard. We start from where your book actually is rather than starting you over.
The assessment and approval
Why is the Author Assessment required?
It's how we learn where your book truly is — the writing, the editing, the cover, the formats you want. Without it we'd be guessing, and guessing is how authors get sold things they don't need.
Do I have to finish the assessment in one sitting?
No. It saves as you go, and you can come back and pick up exactly where you left off.
How does approval work?
Every assessment is read personally. You'll be approved, waitlisted, asked a question, or told honestly that it isn't the right fit right now — and you'll hear it in your portal.
Am I accepted automatically?
No. Registering creates your account and dashboard; it isn't acceptance into the program.
Memberships
When do I choose a membership?
After your assessment is approved. Your dashboard then shows the memberships and unlocks your tools once you've chosen.
What are The Idea, The Manuscript and The Bookshelf?
The three memberships, in order. The Idea is for beginning — your dashboard and writing workspace. The Manuscript adds the book preparation work, including Cover Studio. The Bookshelf is the full platform, including your author website tools. Each one's price and included features are listed on the memberships section.
What does the monthly subscription provide?
The platform itself: your private workspace, your book and format records, your files, the guided publishing workflow, and messages with the team. What's switched on depends on your membership.
How do I pay?
Card payments aren't switched on yet. You choose your membership in your dashboard and we confirm the membership and billing with you directly — nothing is charged online.
Can I change or cancel my membership?
Yes. Message the team from your dashboard and we'll change or end it with you. Because billing is handled directly right now, nothing changes without a conversation.
What happens to my books and files if my subscription ends?
They're kept. Your manuscripts, chapters, files and book details stay readable in your workspace; the editing tools open again when your membership is active. Your rights and your words are always yours.
Your book
Can I publish paperback, hardcover and eBook?
Yes. Your book stays one book — each format is a version of it, with its own page count, ISBN and price rather than being treated as a separate title.
Who handles publishing and distribution?
We do the technical publishing and distribution work behind the scenes, and your dashboard shows the real stage your book is at in plain language. Whether a particular retailer lists your book is always that retailer's decision, and we'll only show a listing once we can actually verify it.
Do I keep the rights to my book?
Yes. You keep your rights, your words and your name.
Will my book appear in the Jenni Blue Publishing shop?
Not automatically. Your book is your own. It only appears on the Jenni Blue Publishing website if you ask for it and Jenni agrees to feature it.
Your dashboard and tools
What is my Author Dashboard?
Your private workspace. It shows your book, its formats, your files, your next steps and your messages — and only ever your own work.
What are the writing and Book Studio tools?
Book Studio is where you write and organise your book chapter by chapter, with your versions kept as you go.
Can I connect my own website?
Yes, with The Bookshelf membership. You keep the site you own and decide what it shows; your book is not added to the Jenni Blue Publishing shop.
What about social media and marketing tools?
These are being built. Until an account is genuinely connected, your dashboard says so plainly instead of showing invented numbers.
What are Author Services?
Optional pieces of work you can request from the team — you'll see the published services and their real prices in your dashboard, and you request one when you want it.
